There is not enough words to describe Elio Altare and his legacy. A pioneer of his era that was searching ways to improve the quality of his wines during the 70’s, but finally – alongside a group of other winemakers of the region – changed the history of Piedmont forever. As one of the original members of the famous “Barolo Boys” they introduced new technics and vinification methods, mainly brought from French during their trips. They revolutionize wine making in Piedmont, getting in direct conflict with tradition. By doing so, they were responsible for what is now known as the great Barolo wines. His daughter Silvia is fully involved in the winery, but Elio – as an untamable spirit – is focused in many other activities as well, including winemaking in Cinqueterre, Liguria; making sparkling wine in the higher Langa hills with an old obscure indigenous variety called “Liseiret;”…
