Domaine Kikones is proudly the first winery founded in 2004 in Rhodope, Thrace, in the far north-eastern corner of continental Greece, by Melina Tassou, Agricultural Engineer – Bordeaux trained Winemaker (D.N.O. Bordeaux).
Domaine Kikones’ main concern is to revive the fame of Thracian vineyards in Greece and abroad. Due to this, the winery has been named Kikones, to pay tribute to the first natives who made wine on Thracian land.
The philosophy is based on the best techniques in grape growing and winemaking. Respecting wine as a natural product, the winemaker applies the minimum technological interference in order to preserve the true character of each wine according to its vintage, while the most important decisions are made by tasting the wines every day, even during fermentation.
The organic vineyard culture is inspired by the Australian trelessing system, the scientific methods of quality control come directly from the University of Bordeaux and the traditional winemaking techniques from Burgundy. Combining all these techniques, Domaine Kikones the unique new Thracian method of winemaking.
