Testalonga Monkey Gone to Heaven

Testalonga Monkey Gone to Heaven. 100% Mourvedre. Hand-harvested, 100% whole bunch fermented for 9 days in open tanks, where it is then pressed and aged in three 500L French barrel. No yeast added, ambient fermentation. 100% malolactic fermentation. Unfined and a light clarifying filtration was done.

An enchanting nose with notes of red and black fruit to go with lavender and what the French call garrigue. The palate shows great fruit purity to go with bright acidity and wonderfully supple tannins. This has a particularly energetic feel and is not nearly as wild as this variety can tend to be. Perhaps the best wine he has done this vintage.

Craig Hawkins is one of the most influential and certainly the most exciting winemakers of not only South Africa, but the New World.
